Job Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician ensures proper operation and maintenance of building utilities including steam generation, ammonia refrigeration, plumbing, compressed air, hydraulics, low pressure blowers, HVAC, wastewater pre-treatment and other building systems critical to operation of the facility as well as production equipment maintenance and repair as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment (compressors, condensers, and pumps) to ensure safe and effective performance of the system.
Install, inspect, and repair mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, filling and processing equipment tied to the ammonia and related cooling systems. - Operate and maintain steam boilers, assisting with annual boiler inspection and certification.
- Operate and maintain air compressors and plant compressed air system.
- Operate and maintain equipment associated with the wastewater pre-treatment plant, including WWTP chemicals.
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures on all building utilities and plant equipment, including ammonia and boiler systems. Accurately document daily rounds and PM’s completed.
- Work closely with vendors and contractors to conduct repairs and periodic inspections.
- Work closely with EHS to document required periodic inspections of the facility, equipment and grounds.
- Change filters on HVAC equipment, air compressors, hydraulic system, product blowers, etc.
- Work varying hours during planned projects and outages.

Required Education and Experience
• Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and/or commensurate experience.
• 5 years of utilities maintenance experience and/or training or more.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Ability to make decisions based on standard practices and operating procedures.
• Ability to pass a respiratory medical evaluation per OSHA requirements and work while wearing an air purifying respirator.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and refrigeration systems.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
• Basic computer skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 3 years of Ammonia refrigeration systems / PSM experience
- 3 years of food facilities maintenance experience or more
- 1 year Waste Water treatment experience
- Steam boiler operation experienceAssociates degree in a technical field
- SAP experience
