Job Overview

The Maintenance Specialist will assist Maintenance Supervisor with scheduling the maintenance of all plant systems, help ensure the plant and facilities run efficiently and work on training programs for the maintenance team.   

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate and work with Production and other departments to address issues/problems with operating systems.
  • Troubleshoot plant systems as necessary.
  • Maintain department communication to ensure continued efficiency of work.
  • Monitor the preventative maintenance program to make sure equipment is serviced with its recommended time frame.
  • Contact contractors to schedule repairs and installations.
  • Ensure that upgrades are performed on existing equipment.
  • Install new software and/or machine codes.
  • Involved in new equipment selection for entire plant operation.
  • Coordinate and schedule maintenance personnel to repair machinery.
  • Handle emergency repairs during production.
  • Read & understand electrical & mechanical drawings. 
  • Ensure that maintenance personnel are following all required safety expectations & company food safety expectations when performing their duties.
  • Maintain the company preventive maintenance system.
  • Ensure that all outside contractors are following all expected company policies and programs when performing work at the plant.
  • Train and coordinate maintenance employee learning.
  • Document and track all learnings for maintenance employees.
  • Develop under guidance content to maintenance employees. 
  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies & procedures.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
     

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and/or commensurate experience. 
  • Five year of maintenance experience or more.
  • 3 years or more of maintenance experience with Great Lakes Cheese equipment or equivalent equipment.
  • Extensive understanding of manufacturing processes.  
  • Broad depth of experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.  
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond routine issues.  
  • Ability to read/understand electrical/mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship. 
  • Must be able to work without relocation.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • SAP experience. 
  • Experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems / PSM.

Working Conditions

• Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
• Must be able to evaluate conditions and behaviors by periodically walking through the plant. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and work at heights.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
• Use of motor skills to safely drive tow motors or other motorized vehicles in tight quarters.
