Job Overview

The Sustainability Specialist will support the advancement of our sustainability efforts around people, product, and planet.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing sustainability and DEI action plans that align with company strategy and culture.
  • Support internal data collection processes for customer, internal, industry, and public sustainability reporting.
  • Keep customer sustainability portals up to date with accurate and complete information.
  • Maintain database of customer reporting, audits, and goals.
  • Assist in responding to customer surveys regarding sustainability efforts, including completing surveys such as Carbon Disclosure Project and EcoVadis.
  • Support in coordination and completion of SMETA 4-Pillar audits.
  • Assist in the completion of materiality assessments and science-based target setting.
  • Assist in coordinating waste management and recycling efforts for all sites and offices.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for sustainability and DEI-related meetings, events, and other employee-owner engagement activities across the network.
  • Work cross-functionally and with industry partners to support progress towards internal, external/customer, and industry sustainability and DEI goals.
  • Research emerging sustainability and social responsibility trends, and provide summary on areas of opportunity.
  • GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 1 year sustainability experience.  
  • Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship.  

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Previous internship or professional experience in a sustainability & communications specialist or similar role.
  • Can do attitude and a willingness to take ownership of problems, learning on the job as necessary.

Working Conditions

• Work is mainly performed in an office setting, with some time spent in a manufacturing environment
• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
