Job Overview
The Sr. Process Engineering Manager will be responsible for process engineering capabilities across the Great Lakes Cheese enterprise. This role will require extensive process knowledge in Dairy Foods, Mass Balance Process Flows, Batching/Blending, Heat Exchangers, Membrane Technologies, Centrifugal Separators, 3A, FDA, PMO, expertise in sanitation CIP, COP, and process utilities including wastewater. The role will collaborate with all internal departments and external resources on P&ID reviews and be the SME on customer and regulatory audits.
Job Responsibilities
- The Sr. Process Engineer provides cross-functional teams the technical knowledge and leadership required for the safe & successful development & deployment of manufacturing solutions from ideation to start-up and sustained operations.
- Provide input on design review, equipment specifications, performance criteria, success factors, budget management, and construction & installation oversight for specified capital projects.
- Oversee process automation and equipment validation activities as related to cheese processing / manufacturing. The Sr. Process Engineer researches, defines, tests, and implements processes and develops P&ID’s, process flow diagrams, and equipment layouts for cheese make facilities of GLC. You will be responsible for sizing and specifying process equipment and coordinating electrical, mechanical and control systems with the equipment.
- Lead teams that identify and minimize sources of process variation and then implement strategies for process optimization & optimize projects. You will be responsible for performing preliminary engineering calculations in areas of potential cost savings.
- Works closely & provides leadership to our plant operations teams and business leaders/sponsors to meet and exceed design capacities, cost-savings and continuous improvement initiatives. Minimize the impact of these projects on current production. Meet goals for safety and environmental compliance.
- Serve as a SME for process engineering and validation during regulatory agency inspections.
- Serve as SME for company on the development or evaluation of technical process concepts and methodologies, new process operations, data analysis techniques and tools, risk management evaluations/assessments
- Provide problem solving and support for product exceptions, root cause analysis and troubleshooting activities
- Manage assigned capital projects. Reviews and approves Engineering Change Notices; Develops and implements project schedules; Schedules meetings as necessary with stakeholders, suppliers, design teams, and permitting agencies; plans work schedules and timelines for support staff.
- Champion environmental / sustainability efforts in the network and lead CI team on this initiative.
Required Education and Experience
- Engineering Degree (BSChE / BSME) or equivalent experience from an accredited institution.
- 7+ years of engineering experience.
- Advanced critical skills thinking, analytical skills and ability to explain the data to non-technical team members.
- Ability to develop, read, and interpret PFD’s, P&IDs and mechanical drawings
- Experience with piping layouts, tank/storage handling, and fluid diversion, mixing of fluid specific to dairy or CIP processes including wastewater operations.
- Provide functional technical leadership & expertise on evolving capabilities within the industry and identify technology opportunities for the process / cheese make operations.
- Ensure project environmental compliance while supporting environmental sustainability goal achievement.
- Key advocate for engineering innovation, providing technical support when growth, modernization and expansion occurs within area of expertise.
- Demonstrate good judgment in risk taking. Champion safety within all aspects of work to ensure compliance, eliminate risk, and keep people at the center of all things we do.

- Develop training content and work with Leadership & Development team to implement training to all process operations / facilities.

Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in engineering discipline
- Experience in cheese make operations.
- Experience in wastewater processing and compliance
- FactoryTalk SE and Rockwell Automation product line
- Proficient in AutoCAD & Solid-works
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including MS Project & SAP
- Knowledge of statistical process control. Six sigma is a plus.
