Job Overview

The Senior Analyst, Corporate Food Safety actively supports the GLC Food Safety Pillars. 
This role executes and maintains the critical programs and activities that form Great Lakes Cheese's food safety foundation, with a focus on Laboratory Management, Data Systems, and Validation Execution. They will collaborate with members of the Corporate FSQA team and cross-functional teams to drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our food safety programs, acting as a resource for laboratory compliance, internal/external lab metrics, and environmental monitoring (EMP) software management, ensuring data accuracy and fostering a culture that prioritizes food safety in our cheese manufacturing and packaging processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Management & Compliance
    • Lab Liaison & Metrics: Collaborates with 3rd party laboratories; coordinates the review of external lab metrics to ensure turnaround times, accuracy, and service levels meet company standards. 
    • Internal Lab Proficiency: Execute and maintain the Internal Laboratory Proficiency Program to ensure all internal testing meets regulatory and company standards.
    • Audits & Assessments: Coordinate Laboratory
    • Maintenance Audits and internal compliance assessments to identify gaps in equipment or procedures.
    • Training: Maintain and facilitate Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) training specifically for laboratory teams to ensure consistency in swabbing and testing techniques.
  • Data Analysis & Systems Management
    • EMP Trending: Provide insights into emerging EMP food safety risks through the analysis, trending, and reporting of Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) data. 
    • Software Administration: Works collaboratively with the Food Safety Partner and Food Safety Director on network utilization of EMP and Internal Audit Software, ensuring systems are up-to-date, functional, and utilized correctly across the network.
  • Process Execution & Validation
    • Validation Execution: Execute internal Network Sanitation Validations, including performing swab surveys, managing downtime data collection, and executing protocols for new equipment or extended run validations.
  • Program Support & Collaboration
    • Support the Food Safety Partner in planning Network Sanitation Validations and Network CCP Validations (Metal Detection, Pasteurization, LACF, etc.).
      Sanitation Support: Assist in the oversight of Network Sanitation Tools and provide support for Remediation Planning and on-site sanitation issues.
    • Collaborate with the Food Safety Partner to support the drafting of Food Safety Policies (FSP), Internal
    • Laboratory Protocols, and process/equipment standardization.
    • Provide support for Food Safety Challenge Study Trial Management.
    • Participate in Routine EMP meetings and provide support during food safety incidents or remediation events.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, or related field and 2 years of food safety experience.
  • Knowledge of sanitation, HACCP, GMPs, and food safety regulations
  • In depth understanding of Food safety processes and related issues.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
    Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional experience.
  • Ability to provide leadership, support,  and communication to personnel relating to food safety issues.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond routine issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Up to 25% travel or more based on business needs.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2-4 years of food science experience.
  • SAP experience.

Working Conditions

• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
• Work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 60-80 degrees F.
• Work is performed across multiple sites, office setting, warehouse floor (cold environment) and in various locations as needed.
