Job Overview

The Network Engineer focuses on all aspects of networking, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and more.  Responsibilities include design implementation, management, monitoring, and support of all aspects of the network.  The ability to analyzing and troubleshooting network or system related issues; identify, evaluate, and develop system solutions; and provide network and system support are required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor network and associated systems, proactively addressing and preventing system issues to ensure maximum system uptime (100%).
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade routers, switches, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain local area networks including corporate office, wide area network, and wireless network, as well as manufacturing plant industrial networks.
  • Provide technical and administrative environmental monitoring throughout the enterprise, including networks and security, servers, virtualization, and critical services & applications as applicable.
  • Design, implement, and support network strategies as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all software and hardware licensing
  • Communicate company IT requirements to suppliers and monitor their “cost versus performance”.
  • Maintain network and data security.
  • Maintain data backup systems for all data for the purpose of recovering in the event of data loss.
  • Work with other business functions including engineering, operations, maintenance, and various IT teams to provide solutions that provide value to the business.

  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
  • Travel to company facilities within the United States up to 25% of the time based on projects and business needs.
  • Provide 24/7 support on an on-call basis.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, etc.
  • Experience in all of the following areas:
  1. Network design and network hardware (Cisco, Arista, Meraki, Stratix).
  2. Routing protocols, including as BGP & OSPF.
  3. Layer 3 designs, including VRRP, MPLS, VRFs, and SDWAN.
  4. Layer 2 designs, including VLANs, PVST, RSTP.
  5. Layer 1 network cabling including copper and fiber as well as appropriate cable management and facilities.
  6. Monitoring and alerting tools such as SolarWinds.
  • Experience with common operating systems and software, such as Microsoft Windows / Server, MacOS, Linux, etc.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create network documentation and diagrams (Visio).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems beyond routine issues and determine root cause.
  • Strong teamwork approach with the ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or a related field.
  • Advanced networking experience.
  • 5+ years of technical experience.
  • RCDD and other relevant certifications desired.
  • Experience in VXLAN network designs and BGP EVPN.
  • Industrial Ethernet protocols such as CIP and Profinet.
  • Familiarity with the Cisco / Rockwell CPwE Guide.
  • Manufacturing experience in the food industry, ideally dairy or packaging.
  • Hands on experience with and understanding of:
  1. Server and desktop virtualization and ability to execute using VMWare solutions
  2. Storage & SANs, using Fiber Channel, iSCSI, FCoE, & NFS

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office setting.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
