Job Overview
The Health and Safety Manager (New York) will develop and implement and oversee programs to improve health and safety performance for the Franklinville and Adams, New York plants.
Job Responsibilities
- Works as part of a team of health and safety and environmental leaders to develop and implement strategic policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including, but not limited to, site-specific permit conditions and reporting requirements as mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Mentor for Safety Coordinators, Specialists & Supervisors at the applicable packaging plants.
- Ensures that workplace conditions comply with all applicable federal, state and organizational Occupational Safety and Health standards.
- Works collaboratively with local Human Resources departments to ensure effectiveness of plant Worker’s Compensation and transitional work programs.
- Directly engages plant leadership in health and safety strategies, plans, systems, programs and results.
- Support compliance with OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) Program; participate in the management of change evaluations and audits; and assist with program documentation.
- Accompany regulatory agencies on any pertinent health and safety audits or investigations.
- Coordinate all initiatives and responses at each assigned plant to align with Corporate Health and Safety directives and programs.
- Drive key health and safety programs that result in a safer workplace as evidenced by a reduction in safety incidents and injuries.
- Implement and oversee an incident investigation process that includes root cause analysis, and assist in preparation of material and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
- Conduct regular inspections to detect existing or potential hazards.
- Determine the appropriate corrective or preventative measures, and ensure long-term sustainable implementation.
- Address all human element findings related to fire prevention from our insurance carrier.
- Prepare Health and Safety related training material for site trainers.
- Support a culture in which Health and Safety compliance is owned at the plant level.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions and best practices to Health and Safety concerns of all levels of complexity that can be shared across the organization.
- Implement and/or revise core health and safety programs to ensure standardization across the assigned plants and the organization.
- All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
- All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing
- Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Manager, Corporate Environmental Health and Safety.
- The pay for this position is $93,800 - 143,800 per year. All offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees and certifications, and internal equity. This range is specific to New York and may not be applicable to other locations.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field or commensurate experience.
- 6 years of Health and Safety experience showing progressive responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success in leading and implementing health and safety programs and systems in a manufacturing environment, preferably across multiple locations.
- Capable of leading and implementing programs towards key performance indicators.
- Strong leadership, organization and project management skills.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization across multiple plant locations.
- Demonstrated understanding of standard health and safety reporting methods and metrics.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Regular travel between the Franklinville and Adams, New York plants, with additional travel as business needs require (up to 50% travel as needed)
- Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 8-12 years of Health and Safety experience showing progressive responsibilities.
- Master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other related safety field.
- Food and beverage industry experience.
- Experience managing Health and Safety in a multi-facility environment.
Working Conditions
• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
