Job Overview

The Cost Specialist will update and validate the projected costs of all products. In addition, they will be responsible for maintaining standard costs for packaging and raw materials.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, prepare and update the projected costs of all products produced and/or converted by Great Lakes Cheese.
  • Assist in identifying performance improvement opportunities by gathering data, observing operational processes and supporting the operations team in cost-saving initiatives.
  • Support the maintenance of the standard cost systems by reviewing for accuracy, learning cost components and helping prepare recommendations for updates under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Validate projected costs of all products and make recommendations for standard cost updates.
  • Learn and support pricing setup and maintenance by gaining familiarity with pricing structures and assisting in the implementation of pricing programs under guidance from senior team members.
  • Reconcile new item costing prior to product commercialization.
  • Monitor and report trim generation and utilization.
  • Assist in reviewing cost drivers by collecting data, helping build user-friendly reports, and learning how these factors influence profitability. 
  • Support cost review processes by analyzing current cost data and contributing ideas to improve operational efficiency. 
  • Participate in quoting system improvement efforts by documenting user feedback, identifying basic inefficiencies, and suggesting enhancements in collaboration with experienced team members.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to support the development of costs.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.  
  • Strong math aptitude and quantitative problem solving approach.  
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite ability including: Excel. 
  • Ability to frame opportunities in a clear, concise and logical manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot, problem solve and meet deadlines.  
  • General understanding of Pricing and Operations processes.  
     

Preferred Education and Experience

• SAP experience.
• General understanding of manufacturing processes.  
• General understanding of equipment capabilities in the Dairy Industry.   

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office setting.
• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
