Job Overview

The Maintenance Technician- Forklift ensures maximum operating efficiency, maintenance and repair of forklifts and equipment in the facility. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Respond to plant requests for immediate attention to forklift issues and problems.
  • Maintain forklift equipment.
  • Maintain records of preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Create requisitions of parts and supplies to maintain equipment.
  • Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.
  • Diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
  • Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor.
  • Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required.
  • Ensure work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety requirements.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot using electrical diagrams and hydraulic diagrams. 
  • Maintain an organized and neat work area. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on GLC forklifts, pallet jacks, all material handling equipment, aerial lifts. 
  • Repair or replace parts (broken or faulty) on all equipment. 
  • Repair or replace tires and wheels when required.
  • Install, program and maintain impact system on forklifts. (keytroller)

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year maintenance experience. 
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes. 
  • Familiar with forklifts and related equipment. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Manufacturing, automotive, military or recent trade school graduates with applied skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.  
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to weld.  (TIG, MIG and Stick).
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and hydraulic drawings.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • 1 year of food manufacturing experience or more.
  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices.  
  • 2 years of forklift repair experience and/or training or more.
  • SAP experience. 

Working Conditions

• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and pushing/pulling/carrying.
• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
• Product weight: up to 100 lbs
• Use of motor skills to safely drive tow motors or other motorized vehicles in tight quarters.
